I advise that we entered a building contract with Larkin & Drought Builders late in 2012 to construct our home at the above address with Craig Drought taking primary responsibility for this project.
Our home is quite a large property with a living area approximately 50 squares, but when you add in balconies, garages and alfresco areas the actual construction totals excess of 70 squares. In addition, the house has 3 levels, incorporates an in ground pool as a structural element of one of the walls and is built on a steeply sloping block.
Although i am not involved in the building industry i had a good idea from the outset that this was going to be a complex building project (as evidenced by the significant engineering involved in the design), but it was not until the project moved into full swing that i fully appreciated the challenges that would be faced by the builder.
Despite these challenges Craig was extremely receptive to the many changes that we raised with him during the construction and in fact he actually made a number of suggestions himself throughout the project that significantly enhanced the final outcome, despite many of these changes causing increased complexity and often disrupting the schedule.
All the way through the project we had the very clear view that Craig's total focus was on getting the best possible outcome. His attention to detail and the quality of workmanship on the project also left us in no doubt about this.
Since we have moved in we have had many people comment on the quality of our home and would therefore have no problem what-so-ever recommending Larkin & Drought Builders to anyone looking to build a home, no matter how large or complex the construction may be.

When deciding to build our home we contacted Drew Larkin as we were aware they were awarded the license to build Wookey style homes, one in particular attracted our attention.

Hi Craig and Drew,
We just felt that it was important to send you guys a note of appreciation and congratulations on a
project that was, ultimately a very complex one, which at times was made more difficult by late
decisions on some things by owners and of course some of the restrictions, that were never in our life time going to happen and yet they did, that created extra challenges.
From the first meeting it was evident that we had found the right people to take on this project,
albeit with an architectural design already in hand with us and engineer who only created a few
early headaches!!
We watched the build closely in the early days being so close at the caravan park down the road and joined in wherever and whenever we were invited, which to Craig’s credit was often and provided much clarity all the way, especially on small things that were tricky, but provided great comfort around making some of these decisions.
The crew of Larkin and Drought were terrific to deal with from our point of view with Aaron and
“Westy” as the main carpenters who were always prepared to listen and offer help or advice. And of course, Danie, aka “Laney”, who was the man that weaved his magic at the right time, many times, especially as the job came closer to the end, his just get “stuff done” attitude is a real winner in our view and his enthusiasm towards Deb and I was fantastic.
The sub-contractors were also fantastic, we got to deal with most of the bigger guys directly, which allowed for smooth transparency in any matters that may not have been on the original plans, to this end we were always comfortable with changes that those guys referred and must say made the job so much easier along the way.
Craig, your supervision on the project was incredible and two townhouses of this magnitude was
always going to provide some speed humps, but your preparedness to hang onto your timelines
regardless of anybody pushing for dates early was a credit to you and your company.
Although we got caught out a little over the timeline, due to the restrictions, some really poor
weather at the end and a couple of small hiccups, it was important that it was finished completely
and with no dramas upon our move in.
We are ecstatic with what we have here and are really proud of the build and feel it will be a great
showcase for you guys and your company in a high traffic street that many will see, the Golden
Triangle that you guys have in this little pocket of Ocean Grove is a credit to you and your team!
Once again thanks heaps and we look forward to a few beers over summer when the heat comes
back and is off a little bit work wise!!
